pl-SaPd

what the hell is it?

pl-SaPd is a SMTP-after-POP daemon for unix systems running sendmail and qpopper.

and what's SMTP-after-POP?

SMTP-after-POP is a technique to prevent spammers from sending their spam trough your server. only people that have provided a valid passwort for their pop mailbox will be allowed to send mails by smtp.

i've seen already some other software with this functionality (here or here). why should i use pl-SaPd?

well, i did this program because i couldn't manage to get one of the other solutions up and running. perhaps i was too dumb or my configuration was to exotic - or both.
if this is true for you... you are welcome to try my way.
plus, the other scripts need far more setup work to be done and instructions are for qpopper versions 2 or 3. with pl-SaPd and some luck, your system is already very cool preconfigured (especially if you have suse 7.0 + or a recent redhat release).

what are the system requirements?

how do i install it?

see the INSTALLATION file

this thing looks like someones first steps in perl!

hmm.. this is not true. my first step was 'print "hello world !\n";'. then, i did this one : )

do i need a license?

pl-SaPd is GPL'ed. do with it whatever you want.

downloads (use the "save link as"-feature of your browser)

what if it doesn't work?

you can write me and i will try to help you if i got time. otherwise, you can try one of the other solutions for SMTP-after-POP or take another approach, ie. SMTP AUTH.

are there bugs?

far more as i know ; )

how can i support this project?

send coffee and perl books.

credits

thanks to everyone who contributed to sendmail or qpopper and to all the people who did something like this before me and gave me some ideas.
